When it comes to maintaining a clean and hygienic home, the bathroom often requires special attention. It’s not just about keeping your bathroom visually appealing but ensuring it’s sanitary to protect the health of you and your family.

In this article we’ll explore how often do you need to clean your bathroom. Plus, we’re packing up all of our expert cleaning tips for one of the most dreaded areas to clean: the toilet.

Determining how often to clean your bathroom

Your bathroom should be experienced as a relaxing environment.

This is the place you go to:

  • start your day,
  • unwind in the tub, or
  • get ready to complete your day.

However, bathrooms are usually a source of stress for a lot of people when it comes to keeping them clean – and if you’ve done renos or have modern materials like glass showers, you want to get cleaning them right.

Having a sparkling clean bathroom is more than just for the appearance, an unclean bathroom can actually lead to many health problems like urinary tract infections, intestinal problems, and even pneumonia.

Below is a simple guide to help you determine the ideal cleaning frequency of your bathroom:

  1. Daily Washroom Cleaning Tasks:

    • Surface Wiping: Bathroom counter surfaces and sink areas should be wiped down daily with a disinfectant cleaner to prevent the accumulation of germs and toothpaste splatters.

    • Toilet Quick Clean: For hygiene, it’s advisable to give your toilet a quick brush daily, especially if your household includes multiple people or children.

  2. Weekly Tasks:

    • Thorough Bathroom Cleaning: Once a week, perform a more comprehensive cleaning. This includes scrubbing the toilet bowl and tank, cleaning the bathtub and shower walls, and mopping the floor. Using a natural antibacterial cleaner will help reduce the buildup of bacteria and mold.

    • Mirror and Faucet: Clean and polish mirrors and faucets to remove water spots and fingerprints, which can accumulate noticeably over the week.

  3. Monthly Washroom Cleaning Tasks:

    • Deep Clean: Monthly, tackle areas that don’t require weekly attention but can harbor dirt and grime over time. This includes cleaning the grout, washing any bathroom mats, and wiping down less-frequently used areas like corners and high shelves.

    • Shower Curtain and Liners: Wash or replace shower curtains and liners to prevent mold and mildew buildup, which can contribute to a musty smell and unhealthy environment.

  4. Seasonal Bathroom Cleaning Tasks:

    • Exhaust Fan and Vents: Every few months, clean out the exhaust fan and air vents. These areas can collect dust, which not only reduces their efficiency but can circulate dirt and potential allergens through the bathroom.

    • Declutter and Organize: Seasonal changes are a great opportunity to declutter drawers and cabinets, check the expiry dates on products, and organize your toiletries. This keeps your space functional and pleasant.

3. How to Clean Bathroom Sink

There are many problems that can arise when we leave our bathroom sinks unclean.

Some of these include:

    • Stains: If a sink is not cleaned regularly, it can develop unsightly stains. These can be caused by hard water, toothpaste, soap, or other substances that are left to sit on a sink’s surface for too long. Stains can be difficult to remove and may require harsh chemicals that can damage the sink’s finish.

    • Clogged drain: An unclean sink can also lead to a clogged drain. Soap scum, hair, and other debris can build up in the drain over time, causing it to slow down or even stop completely. This can be a major inconvenience and may require professional help to fix. It can also cause major health issues.

  • Corrosion: Oxidation that damages the surface with rust.

  • Mold and mildew: Uncontrolled moisture is a major factor to growing mold on a bathroom sink.

The best tip is to simply maintain your sinks by using a product that makes the job quick and painless! Using some kind of scouring paste like we mentioned earlier, would work really well on your bathroom sinks and will leave it sparkling in minutes.
