1. Household chemicals are harmful to your home

Like many of us, you may have grown up in your family home using harsh chemicals to clean and disinfect your home.

In fact, most of us associate the smell of bleach with “clean.” But is it really clean?

Well, that depends on your definition of clean. Although bleach does disinfect, it’s only one of many standard products that can actually damage your home.

Other products that can impact the air quality within your house and damage the surfaces your home include:

  • Ammonia (Glass Cleaners)
  • Hydrochloric Acid (Liquid Drain Cleaners)
  • Sodium Hydroxide (Oven Cleaners)

Using any of these toxic chemicals in your home can cause stains, corrosive damage to your pipes, ruin carpets, damage wood finishing, stone, and your countertops.

The good news is that you CAN get a brilliant, shiny clean in your home with eco-friendly products! There’s no need to worry about causing damage with the use of toxic chemicals in your home.

2. Household toxins are harmful to you

If toxic chemicals can be harmful to your home, they can certainly be harmful to you!

You and your family deserve to feel safe in your home without worrying about the harmful effects that toxic chemicals have.

Here are the top most toxic chemicals I often find in people’s homes:

  • Bleach
  • Windex
  • CLR
  • Easy – Off (oven cleaner)

All of these products are incredibly toxic and dangerous to our health.

When used in the home, these products stay within the home and you become exposed through inhalation, or skin contact. All of these products contain carcinogens which also increase your risk of developing cancer.

If you’re looking for an up-to-date list of toxins found in cleaning products, including how to make your own household cleaners, I really like this guide put together by The Mesothelioma Center:
Lung-safe household cleaning products and cleaning tips.

Remember that natural products are the best lung safe cleaning products, which is especially important if you or your children have asthma!

3. Toxic cleaning products are harmful to the environment

A lot of these toxic chemicals that are used have a detrimental impact on the environment. Products like drain cleaners, toilet bowl cleaners, tub cleaners, and floor cleaners, all go down your drain and into our water systems. This impacts not only our water supply, but habitats and wildlife. Toxic cleaning products impact our entire ecosystem.

Another issue with a lot of toxic cleaning products is the use of plastic. These products tend to not be concentrated and people will use several bottles of each product each year. This only adds to our growing landfills as we are producing more waste than the time it takes to decompose

There are eco-friendly products that are not only safe for you and your home, but they are incredibly concentrated so you minimize your plastic use. One bottle of concentrated eco-friendly cleaner can make over 5000 bottles of window cleaner! That is a lot of waste saved.

4. Cleaning chemicals don’t do a “better job”

Now that you know the impact of toxic chemicals in your home, do you still think they do a better job? Is your home actually clean if there are toxic chemicals floating in the air and resting on your surfaces?

Most chemical disinfectants actually need to sit on surfaces for about 4 minutes before they start to kill any germs in your home, but if you leave them for too long – they’ll damage your surfaces.

Have you ever noticed when using a chemical based glass cleaner, your glass tends to look filmy? Chemical cleaners leave a residue behind that makes obtaining a clean, streak-free, smooth surface MUCH harder than it needs to be.

Have you ever tried to clean your tub with bleach and ended up with stains? This happens more than you think! Bleach can also damage the finish of your tub.

5. Green cleaning products REALLY work

You are only as good as the tools that you have, meaning you can only clean well with the RIGHT kinds of products.

Eco-friendly products can produce the result you are looking for and even better than chemical cleaners as they will not leave any fumes behind or damage your surfaces.

Mother nature has all the answers! Did you know coconut is a natural occurring anti-bacterial? Coconut based products are easy, safe, and WORK.

Lemon oil is another gift and is considered Mother Nature’s Goo-Gone! You need very little lemon oil to remove stickers, scuffs, or anything stuck to a surface.

These are only two examples of the many ways green products REALLY work.

6. Toxic free cleaning products come with a list of benefits

Here are 8 benefits that toxin-free, green cleaning products bring for you and your home:

  1. Reduce your risk of developing skin irritations like eczema
  2. You won’t be breathing in harsh chemicals that can lead to respiratory infections
  3. You can say good-bye to that chemical film on your glass/surfaces
  4. Your home feels fresh
  5. Peace of mind knowing your home is safe
  6. Better for the environment
  7. Cost-effective
  8. Better performance

7. You can freshen your home naturally

Have you ever gone on a hike in the woods, or stared at the ocean, and instantly your mood lifted?

Living harmoniously with nature increases our physical performance, provides mentality clarity/focus, and has been shown to aid in the development of children.

We are a part of the natural, wild that exists on our beautiful planet. When we are more connected to nature, we feel more peace for a reason. If you live in a city – no problem, here are several ways you can incorporate more nature into your home:

  • Adding live plants
  • Use natural light when possible
  • Use essential oils instead of artificial scents
  • Use eco-friendly cleaning products
  • Use natural soaps/shampoos

8. Know which green cleaning product brands to trust in Canada

Unfortunately, there is little regulation on the term “Green” or “Eco-friendly” in Canada.

The onus is put on the consumer to do their due-diligence when looking for eco-friendly products. This means you can’t trust what the label says when they say it is eco-friendly, you will have to investigate further and double-check the ingredients to make sure.

Our main line of products that we use comes from Shaklee. We are so grateful for this company because they stand for a natural way of living – and their products work!

Another domain that is unfortunately not regulated are essential oils. In fact, you can go to your local dollar store and purchase “Pure Lavender Oil” only to find it smells like gasoline!

We decided to add essential oils to the products we use so our client’s homes can smell like real lemon, lavender, and peppermint, and that’s when we found Doterra. Doterra’s oils are 100% pure, meaning they are safe to ingest or use on your skin (some are very potent and are not meant to ingest or apply topically).

9.Influence others to make a change

What you take on for yourself, you make possible for others.

We’re on a mission to debunk the myth that chemicals = clean.

They are not safe for you, your family, your home, or our planet.

When you take on improving your lifestyle, your loved ones, friends, and coworkers may notice or perhaps you’ll feel inspired to share to help them as well. You become a leader to the people in your life by leading by example. By going green, you can influence others to do the same, and we can help so many others, together!

10. Let an eco-friendly professional cleaning service help you embrace green cleaning
